N Lincoln House Church
Unapologetically Biblical, given over to prayer and fasting, uncompromising and unyielding to the world, and committed to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom, both in word and deed.
Welcome! If you’re considering attending, please read this page in it’s entirety.
Disclaimer
We do not claim to have everything I’m about to talk about perfected, but we are committed to seeking the Lord and pursuing these things. It is a journey that we ourselves are on, and we are inviting you to join us. You don’t need to have all this figured out either, but you do need to have the hunger and commitment to not settle for less than the fullness of what Jesus died for.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to talk about anything mentioned below.
Getting Started
Much of the modern “Church” in America is sick.
We’ve lost the true meaning of the gospel. It’s been reduced to a self-serving and comfortable message, designed to make people feel better about their autonomy from and rebellion against the King of Glory. It is no longer the confrontational message of self-denial, eternal glory, and giving your whole life for the greater cause. It has become a gospel of self-love, finding your “true self”, and “live your best life”, rather than the invitation of the cross, come die.
The church is stained by the world, to the point that it is all but indistinguishable. Words like holiness and consecration cannot be found in our sermons. You would be hard pressed to find a church body that does not contain the world’s values and metrics for success, relying on their own strength instead of the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer is all but nonexistent. Hardly any preach the gospel. It’s as if we don’t actually believe those around us are going to spend eternity in Hell, or that God would have us, the Church, do anything about it. Instead we sit at home, lulled to a complacent and apathetic sleep by the entertainment of a world in complete and utter rebellion to Him.
It’s time for something different, something new, that is actually not new but a restoration of the original, laid out by the Word of God and the testimony of the early church. We will be a people that also “turn the world upside-down” (Acts 17:6).
Unapologetically Biblical
The Bible is our blueprint and guideline. Many would say they have a Biblical Worldview, yet their very lives and values contradict the basic and general Biblical principals. Pop theology abounds unchecked, making excuses for and watering down anything that would challenge us. Simply put, we are not going to settle for that, but are going to simply take the Bible at it’s word. It’s up to us to obey the scriptures, not make them more palatable. We will be completely committed to this, even if some, who are typically given over to complacency and comfort, would call us legalistic. But Jesus, Peter, Paul, and those who give us the blueprints for New Testament, Holy Spirit living were not being legalistic when they instructed the churches to function in these ways. We will not excuse away the things we don’t fully understand or don’t like, nor will we bow to the criticisms of a sin-steeped culture, or the complacent and apathetic “church” that refuses to confront it.
A note on the interpretation of the Bible, as there has been some contention on this point in current times. The Bible is the infallible and completely inspired Word of God. There is not a part of it that is irrelevant or outdated, and it is all useful to us. You do not need a degree in Greek or something to understand it. The Bible has transformed individuals, communities, and nations for centuries via the simple understanding and application of common men. In fact, many of those more “learned” individuals would attempt to distort and confuse the message beyond all recognition or usefulness, turning from a practical life-changing message to a vague and distant set of philosophical and moralistic ideas to be debated. The Bible was written by common men, inspired by the Holy Spirit, to be read and applied by common men, empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are taking the Bible at its base-level and literal meaning, aside from where it itself would specify otherwise. The Bible as a whole interprets itself in the context of itself, and anything outside of that the Lord did not feel needed to be included. No supposed extra-Biblical information, cultural context, or language learning will take away from what it simply says, but only proves to deepen and strengthen what it says.
What We'll Be Pursuing
Death to self, Humility, Repentance, Holiness, Worship, Prayer, Fasting, Preaching the Gospel, Revival.
A Couple Practicalities
1. Dress modestly
This goes for both genders. Church in many places has become a fashion show, people trying to impress each other. This is sinful and worldly and we will make no space for it. Please dress modestly, not lazily as we want to be intentional when we approach the Lord, but also not trying to be something. Dress casually. Normally. We are normal people coming together to fellowship with the Lord and with each other. You don’t need fancy clothes, makeup, or done-up hair to come before the Lord. If we feel something you’re wearing is immodest, we’ll talk to you gently and privately at some point about it.
2. Head coverings
We may lose most people here. So be it. 1 Cor. 11 says that married women should wear a head covering when praying and prophesying in corporate gatherings, and the opposite for men. This is a hard thing for our culture to swallow, but again we are going to adhere to the scriptures unapologetically. We will provide head coverings for the ladies if needed, or you can bring your own. You can simply wear it the whole service time, or take it on and off for any praying or sharing of a word. The opposite with guys, if you wear a hat just take it off for the prayer times or if you’re sharing a word.
3. Childcare
We don’t have any childcare, though it’s something we may be able to figure out in the future depending on the needs.
We believe that these things we are going after are not beyond children’s ability to understand and respond to, and would love to cultivate our children staying with us throughout the whole service. We understand that can be difficult with littles, we have small children as well. We’ll have a small space set up for them in a back room if you need to take them back there, but you’ll be responsible to care for their needs.
We will also be recording the messages and posting them here on this site, so if you miss something or want to listen back that’ll be available.
4. No Weapons
Do not bring any weapons with you to our services. We understand the self-protection sentiment, but the early church was marked by the readiness at any point to be drug out and persecuted or martyred, and considered it a privilege and glory. We too will be marked by that readiness.
Service and Times
We meet in our home in Troy, MO.
We will be kicking things off on Good Friday, April 18th at 7pm.
Our first Sunday will be Easter Sunday, April 20th, at 9am, then continuing every Sunday, also at 9am, after that. There won’t be a set close time as we want to leave room for the Lord to move as He would, but typically I’m guessing we’d be done by noon.
Services will be whatever we feel the Lord wants to do but will likely have a time of prayer, worship, a message and scripture reading.
We will be recording our messages and posting them on this site.
